Charter-school advocates are cheering Friday’s appointment of Florida state Sen. Manny Diaz as the Sunshine State’s new training chief.

Diaz, the first Hispanic to provide as Florida’s Office of Education commissioner, has been a longtime supporter of school option and is anticipated to extend the sector on getting business in June.

Florida hosts 5 of the country’s 10 premier faculty districts, and Diaz’s new position provides constitution supporters a key countrywide foothold.

The Cuban-American is deemed a staunch conservative and has been an ally of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who assisted him land the schooling submit.

Hailing from Hialeah Gardens, Diaz has backed many controversial initiatives spearheaded by DeSantis in new months.

These contain the “Parents Rights Bill” that prohibits instruction on gender identification and sexual orientation for young children in kindergarten by the 3rd quality.

Critics known as it the “Don’t Say Gay” invoice and said it was hostile to the LGBTQ community.

Diaz has also supported the elimination of crucial race concept from Florida schools and pushed for a necessary “Victims of Communism Day” of instruction for all children.

“I know him to be a individual of integrity and usually open up to seriously considering opposing viewpoints,” said previous state Sen. Invoice Montford, chief executive officer of the Florida Association of District School Superintendents.

The Florida Point out Board of Instruction permitted Diaz unanimously Friday.
